Call for Proposals: NPO Funding for 2026/2027 (South Africa)

Deadline: 15-Oct-2025

The Gauteng Department of Social Development (GDSD) is pleased to announce the official opening of calls for proposals/business plans from the NPO sector.

This call for proposals is directed at NPOs that are committed to delivering developmental social services within the province. It forms part of the department’s broader effort to strengthen community-based initiatives that support vulnerable and marginalized groups.

To be considered for funding, organizations must be formally registered under the NPO Act as social services providers. The department emphasizes that only NPOs that are active within one or more of Gauteng’s designated development corridors will be eligible to apply. This geographic requirement ensures that services are aligned with provincial development strategies and that support reaches communities most in need.

The selection process is rigorous, with funding dependent on a number of critical factors. These include compliance with all requirements set out in the proposal guidelines, alignment with departmental objectives, the availability of funds, and the organization’s overall capacity to implement the proposed project effectively. NPOs must also demonstrate the potential impact of their projects in contributing to social upliftment and development.

Compliance is non-negotiable. All NPOs must have up-to-date registration under the NPO Act. Those with dual registration as a Trust or Non-Profit Company must also meet full compliance under the NPO Act. A valid letter of compliance from the National Department of Social Development must accompany the application. Proposals from NPOs that are de-registered or found to be non-compliant with legal, financial, or municipal regulations will not be considered.

This funding opportunity highlights the GDSD’s commitment to partnering with capable and compliant organizations to drive meaningful social change across Gauteng. NPOs are encouraged to prepare their proposals thoroughly and ensure they meet all requirements to stand a chance of receiving support for their initiatives.
