The City of Nanaimo is inviting proposals for its Community Development Grant Program. This initiative aims to support organizations in creating programs that enrich the lives of residents by providing diverse and engaging experiences.
A total of $15,000 has been allocated by Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Culture for the Community Program Development grants. The funding is intended to help groups build on their success and expertise in program delivery.
Eligible applicants are typically established non-profit organizations, neighborhood groups, or entities with proven experience in managing programs and funds. However, the Finance and Audit Committee may consider funding for other individuals or groups on a discretionary basis.
Applicants must demonstrate broad community participation or a significant potential audience. Proposals will be evaluated based on several criteria including community benefit, financial need, support from other funding sources, long-term sustainability, community support through participation, and the group’s management capabilities.
Additional considerations include the potential impact of the program on the community, the level of public recognition of municipal contributions, media exposure, and the overall visibility of the program.
Private or commercial organizations are not eligible for funding. Capital expenditures will not be considered, and organizations that have already received City funding for the same application are ineligible.
The proposed programs must fill a gap in the community, provide meaningful experiences, and target specific community benefits. They should be sustainable and show potential for long-term success through alternative funding sources, fees, or partnerships.
Programs that may create short-term employment opportunities for youth or students are also encouraged. Preference will be given to new projects, although repeat applications may be considered if changes, expansions, or continued need can be clearly demonstrated.
This grant is specifically intended for programs, events, and festivals that use City of Nanaimo facilities or services. Applicants must follow strong governance practices and organizations already receiving operational funds from the City are not eligible for seed funding through this program.
