Community Partnership Fund for Stewart Island Rakiura (New Zealand)

Call for Proposals: Supporting Community-Led Solutions for Social Cohesion in Montenegro

Deadline: 31-Oct-2025

The Southland District Council in New Zealand is offering a grant opportunity through its Community Partnership Fund specifically for Stewart Island/Rakiura.

This fund is intended to empower local groups to identify and address their own needs, goals, and aspirations using a community-led development approach. It’s a chance for local organizations to turn ideas into action in social, economic, cultural or environmental areas that matter to Stewart Island/Rakiura.

Funding is open to not-for-profit community groups, whether legally formalized or informal, as long as they have their own bank account. Individuals are not eligible. The grants do not cover ongoing operational costs. For projects involving capital works, applicants must provide two quotes (or a reasonable explanation if not possible). The project must align with the Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Board’s outcomes—things like sustainable infrastructure, connection and cohesion, guardianship of the environment, planning for the future, and accountability from agencies.

About $4,514 is available each year for this fund, with a single funding round that closes on 31 October. Applications are assessed at the community board meeting in December. Applicants must provide documentation like bank details, recent financial statements, bank statement, relevant quotes, and supporting materials such as letters of support.

Recent grant recipients have included local school and arts groups, community clubs, and other neighborhood initiatives. Examples include funding for school programmes, transport costs for instructors, community art workshops, and donations toward local amenities.

If you’re a community group on Stewart Island/Rakiura with a project idea that fits these goals, this grant is a great way to access local support. If you need help, you can contact the Council for assistance with your application.
