Deadline: 01-Aug-2025

The Government of Alberta is now accepting grant applications to support survivors of gender-based violence and improve related community services. Gender-based violence includes a wide range of harmful behaviors such as intimate partner violence, sexual assault, harassment, stalking, human trafficking, financial abuse, and online exploitation. The goal is to strengthen programs that address these issues through community-based and survivor-centered approaches.

The Community Pathways to Justice grant focuses on several strategic areas. These include enhancing legal support and system navigation services, funding survivor-focused legal clinics, expanding restorative justice initiatives, and increasing access to legal education in multiple languages for immigrant and refugee women. Other areas include supporting prevention, diversion, reintegration programs, and improving accessibility to services across legal systems.

A total of $1.25 million is available under this grant, which is part of a broader $54 million bilateral agreement with the federal government. Eligible programs can receive a one-time payment between $50,000 and $150,000 for a one-year term. The funding must be used for direct program costs such as salaries, materials, marketing, and communications during the grant period.

Eligible activities include community education campaigns, legal advice for survivors, crisis intervention, coordination between justice services, and development of alternative justice processes. Programs must be operational, focus on survivor support, and be rooted in the Alberta community. Ineligible activities include non-operational programs, perpetrator counseling, training-the-trainer models, research, or transferring funds to third parties.

Eligible applicants include registered non-profits, charities, First Nations, Métis Nation of Alberta, or Metis Settlements. The grant excludes individuals, academic institutions, for-profit organizations, municipalities, police services, and publicly funded institutions. The initiative must be based in Alberta and align with the grant’s goal of improving legal access and justice outcomes for gender-based violence survivors.
