Grassroots Grants for Small Community Organisations in UK

Grant Competition: Support for Polish Communities in the area of activating Civic Attitudes

Deadline: 14-Oct-2025

The Small community organisations across England now have the opportunity to apply for unrestricted grants through Groundwork’s Grassroots Grants programme.

These grants, ranging from £500 to £2,000, are specifically aimed at groups with an income of less than £25,000 in the last financial year, helping them continue or grow the essential services they provide in their local communities.

The programme places a strong emphasis on supporting organisations that work with marginalised or vulnerable communities, offering targeted funding to groups that are often at the frontline of addressing need. Whether your organisation supports people with access to food and basic essentials, delivers wellbeing activities, enhances local green spaces, runs cultural projects, or provides volunteering opportunities—this fund is designed to help.

Funding can be used flexibly across a range of areas, including staff or volunteer expenses, materials and equipment, core operational costs like rent and utilities, training for team members, or consultant time to strengthen the organisation’s operations or governance. The flexibility of the grant means organisations can use the funding where it will make the biggest impact, whether to keep vital services running or to trial a new idea.

However, some activities are not eligible. These include retrospective costs for work already carried out, political or religious campaigns, fundraising challenges, overseas appeals or travel, and medical treatment or research. The grant also cannot be used to cover loan repayments or be allocated to financial reserves.

Groundwork’s Grassroots Grants programme offers a valuable opportunity for small organisations to access essential funding without heavy restrictions, empowering them to continue their work at the heart of their communities. With a simple application process and a focus on those delivering real impact in challenging circumstances, it’s an ideal opportunity for local groups striving to make a difference.
