Deadline: 31-Aug-2025
Applications are now open for the Rural Halls Fund, which aims to provide financial support to ten Rural Hall Societies in Horowhenua for the maintenance of the halls they manage. The fund primarily targets the nine original hall societies that still operate today, and these groups are considered Tier One applicants, receiving top priority.
Other community hubs, marae, and facilities within Horowhenua can also apply, but they fall under the Tier Two category and will be given lower priority during the selection process. These include non-profit groups that manage community spaces where there is no nearby rural hall, such as in Waitārere Beach and Foxton Beach.
Tier One applicants include Ihakara Hall, Ōhau Hall, Opiki Hall, Manakau Hall, Tokomaru Hall, Poroutawhao Hall, Koputaroa Hall, Moutoa Hall, and Mangahao Hall (Mangaore).
When allocating funds, the Council’s Funding and Recognition Subcommittee will follow set criteria and priorities. The highest priority is given to projects that protect the structural integrity of the halls, including roof replacement or repainting, cladding replacement, water and wastewater service repairs, and power supply upgrades.
The second level of priority includes interior upgrades such as repainting, ceiling and floor repairs, window replacements with low-maintenance alternatives, toilet facility improvements, and the installation of modern ovens.
The third level of priority is for projects that enhance the hall’s appearance and functionality, such as new floor coverings, kitchen upgrades, better lighting with energy-saving features, and seating improvements.
