IMMA’s Dwell Here: One Year Studio Residencies Programme (Ireland)

#image_title

Deadline: 22-Jul-2025

The Irish Museum of Modern Art is now accepting applications for Dwell Here 2026: One Year Studio Residencies, designed specifically for artists and practitioners based locally. This opportunity welcomes applicants from visual arts, design, architecture, curation, and related humanities fields. Successful candidates will receive support to conduct independent, site-responsive research.

IMMA’s Dwell Here programme revolves around seasonal Research Assemblies held as week-long forums. These gatherings bring together a diverse community of mentors, peers, and residents for collaborative engagement and interdisciplinary dialogue.

During the one-year residency, participants are expected to share their process-based research with the wider community through these Research Assemblies. Activities include presenting self-directed research, participating in discussions and studio visits, and engaging with IMMA’s programming, staff, collections, and archives. Residents will also take part in off-site visits and connect with Ireland’s broader arts communities and infrastructures. Informal knowledge exchange such as co-working and co-living are key parts of the residency experience.

The residency explores themes centered on commitment to place and time. One theme, Technologies of Peace, invites artists to reflect on landscapes and memories of peace while fostering ideas about sustainable coexistence. The Irish Paradigm encourages research that builds intimacy and connection, recognizing Ireland’s unique position as a small island on the periphery of Europe. The Museum as a Site of Vibration prompts reflection on how museums can reveal cultural shifts, including erased or marginalized histories, while engaging with sustainability and hospitality.

Residents will have access to a free onsite IMMA studio with essential amenities like electricity, heating, Wi-Fi, and parking. They will also receive a €4,000 bursary for the year, plus pre-agreed funding for materials and programming related to the Research Assemblies.

IMMA invites Expressions of Interest from artists and thinkers located within a reasonable commuting distance to the museum. Accommodation is not provided for this residency, so applicants needing lodging should consider other IMMA residency programs. Ideal candidates are those committed to research excellence within their chosen disciplines.
