Nominations are now open for the MidCoast Youth Awards to recognise the valuable contributions young people aged 12-24 in the MidCoast Council region by celebrating the achievements of individuals across seven categories (The Arts, Community Service, Leadership, Sports, Wellbeing, Resilience and Entrepreneurship).
Award Categories (except for the Entrepreneurship category) are split into two age groups, 12 to 17 years and 18-24 years with the winner of each category receiving a $250 cash prize. Only young people aged 18-24 are eligible for the Entrepreneur Award.
The MidCoast Youth Awards is an initiative of Taree PCYC and MidCoast Council with support from the following organisations:

Categories
- Arts Award
- The Arts award is given to young people who have excelled in their chosen field within the Arts. Fields include visual arts (drawing, filmmaking, painting and photography), literary arts (fiction, drama, poetry and prose) and the performing arts (dance, music and theatre). The recipient of this award will have:
- Demonstrated a commitment to the field through ongoing contributions;
- Been recognised for their work through formal and informal achievements; and/or
- Supported others to engage with the arts in a meaningful way.
- The Arts award is given to young people who have excelled in their chosen field within the Arts. Fields include visual arts (drawing, filmmaking, painting and photography), literary arts (fiction, drama, poetry and prose) and the performing arts (dance, music and theatre). The recipient of this award will have:
- Community Service Award
- The Community Service Award recognises young people who have volunteered their time to give back to our community. This award acknowledges those young people who strive to put the interests and needs of others first in an effort to better the community as a whole. The recipient of this award will have:
- Strong, local volunteer experience that can be evidenced;
- A demonstrated impact through their contribution to the community.

- Leadership Award
- The Leadership Award acknowledges those young people who display or sustain positive leadership qualities or positions within the community. The recipient of this award will:
- Display a commitment to the field they lead in;
- Show integrity in the manner in which they lead;
- Inspire others to participate in the field.

- Sports Award
- The Sports Award recognises a young person who is successful and/or has represented the community in their chosen sport. This young person may be part of a team, or a solo sport. The recipient of this award will have:
- Demonstrated significant achievements within their sport; and/or
- Represented the community at a regional, state or national level.

- Wellbeing Award
- This award recognises young people who embody or promote positive wellbeing messages and who seek to improve a community or individual’s overall wellbeing. The recipient of this award will have:
- Been involved in the delivery of initiatives that promote improved wellbeing;
- Advocated for the improvement of wellbeing within their community context.

- Resilience Award
- The Resilience Award celebrates young people who have bounced back from tough times to accomplish a positive outcome. The recipient of this award will have:
- Demonstrated triumph over adversity;
- Inspired others to achieve with their story; and/or
- Shown a dramatic increase in self-confidence / talent / area of life

- Entrepreneur Award
- This award acknowledges individuals who have exhibited innovation, motivation, vision and creativity to establish a business venture or new start up business. The recipient of this award will have:
- Shown initiatives in getting a new business off the ground;
- Demonstrated creativity in pushing through roadblocks.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a MidCoast Youth Award, the young person being nominated must:
- Be 12-24 years old on Thursday 12 August 2021.
- Live, work or study in the MidCoast Council Local Government Area.
