Eligibility Criteria
- Nominees should reside or work principally within the Port Macquarie Hastings Local Government Area.
- Awards may be granted posthumously in recognition of recent achievements.
- Groups of people or couples will not normally be eligible except when meeting the criteria for a community group. Though a couple or pair working together on a joint initiative may be considered in an individual category at the discretion of the selection committee.
- A person may receive an award on more than one occasion in recognition of their particularly outstanding community contribution or involvement in an alternative initiative.
- Unsuccessful nominees may be nominated in future years.
- Nominations must be apolitical in their nature and should not in any way bring the awards program or local government area into disrepute.
- Sitting members of State, Federal and Local Government are not eligible.
Category Criteria
- Citizen of the Year
- Outstanding contribution or achievement by an individual aged between 26 and 65 years. The winner will be an inspirational role model and display continued excellence in their field and in the community.
- Demonstrated achievement in one or more of the following:
- personal, academic or professional achievements
- contribution in the relevant field
- demonstrated leadership, innovation and creativity
- personal interests and community involvement
- contribution to the development of the community and/or economy
- contributions being completed on a voluntary basis or exceeding the normal requirements of their paid work.
- Young Person of the Year
- Outstanding achievement by an individual aged 25 years or younger. The winner will be an inspirational role model and display continued excellence in their field and in the community.
- Demonstrated achievement in one or more of the following:
- personal, academic or professional achievements
- demonstrated leadership, innovation and creativity
- personal interests and community involvement
- contribution to issues affecting youth in the community
- contributions on a voluntary basis or exceeding the normal requirements of paid work.
- Community Organisation of the Year
- For outstanding achievement by a community group who has made a significant contribution to the community. Demonstrated achievement in one or more of the following:
- Significant contribution to the local community over and what is normally expected from their paid employment/business.
- Demonstrated leadership on a community issue resulting in the enhancement of community life.
- A significant initiative which has brought about positive change and added value to community life.
- Inspiring qualities as a role model for the community.
- For outstanding achievement by a community group who has made a significant contribution to the community. Demonstrated achievement in one or more of the following:
- Environment Award
- Recognises outstanding efforts by an individual or organisation who is championing environmental initiatives in the community. The nominee will have demonstrated their:
- Efforts to preserve the environment
- Ability to foster partnerships that achieve litter reduction and recycling outcomes
- The use of the Return and Earn scheme to help fundraise for a meaningful cause.
- Recognises outstanding efforts by an individual or organisation who is championing environmental initiatives in the community. The nominee will have demonstrated their:
- Living Treasure
- This award is targeted to people who have made a lasting impact on the quality and nature of life for all of the Port Macquarie Hastings community. Often quiet achievers, whom without, great things would never come to pass. They will have devoted themselves to the community and influenced the history, local economy, social, sporting and cultural life.
