Request for Applications: Connecting Schools Grant Program (Australia)

Small Grants for Local Actions on Global Citizenship Education and Sustainable Development (Serbia and Montenegro)

Deadline: 03-Nov-2025

Applicants are now invited to submit applications for the Connecting Schools Grant Program to support active travel initiatives in Your Move schools in Western Australia.

The CSG objectives include improving bicycle access, active transport infrastructure and initiatives that support increased riding, walking and scootering to school, building capacity for increased participation in active travel for the trip to school, increasing the opportunity for schools across WA to have access to bicycle facilities of high quality that are suitable for use by all ages and abilities, and promoting and supporting a positive culture of active travel in school communities.

The grant offers packaged goods and services that schools can use to deliver a range of projects. Through the CSG, schools can access bike and pedestrian safety education workshops, upgrades to bike and scooter parking, and funding to support innovative initiatives that encourage active travel.

For the 2025-26 grant round, a total funding pool of $325,000 is available, distributed across four categories grouped under two streams: Silver, Gold and Platinum in stream one, and Double Platinum in stream two. Each funding stream has its own deadline for acquittal, with Silver, Gold, and Platinum projects required to be completed within the 2025-26 financial year, and Double Platinum projects completed within the 2026 calendar year.

To secure funding, projects must meet the CSG objectives and demonstrate clear alignment with them. Schools can apply for Silver grants up to $1,200 for initiatives such as safety school excursions, innovation projects, Nature Play WA walking tours, road safety signs, bike safety checks, balance bike skill development, and Cycle Instructor Accreditation with teacher relief. Gold grants provide up to $3,500 for bike and scooter parking infrastructure, bike education, balance bikes and road safety sign packages, bicycles and helmets for bike libraries, and innovation projects.

Platinum grants offer up to $7,500 for bike and scooter parking infrastructure and bike check-ups and education. Double Platinum grants, with a maximum of $25,000, fund large-scale bike parking infrastructure projects or bike trails, with only one bike trail project to be funded in this round.

Funded items include end-of-trip facilities, innovation projects, bike education sessions, bike check-ups, skills track surfacing, bike trails, repair stations, parking infrastructure, accessories, bike libraries, teacher accreditation courses, teacher relief for grant-related activities, excursions, walking tours, educational resources, bike hire, coaching sessions, bus charters, and guest speakers.

Unfunded items include fundraising or for-profit events, professional development seminars, conference attendance or travel, competitive bike events, gift vouchers from non-WA businesses, general sporting equipment, ongoing operating costs, depreciation, and any costs not directly related to the grant project. Successful applicants must attend an online school kick-off meeting with DTMI’s Behaviour Change team to review the grant package, Deed, responsibilities, and project commencement timelines.

Western Australian schools that participate in Your Move and meet the criteria are eligible to apply. Schools awarded a Double Platinum grant are ineligible for another Double Platinum grant for the following two financial years but may apply for a lower-tier grant during this period. At least one Double Platinum grant is reserved for a regional or remote school, with any unclaimed grants reallocated to metropolitan schools.

The assessment process involves meeting general eligibility criteria, including achieving a Your Move accreditation level of Silver or higher by the grant closing date, completing start-of-year and end-of-year Hands Up Surveys, and fulfilling previous acquittal requirements. Applications are then assessed competitively against weighted criteria reflecting how well the project aligns with grant objectives.

Upon project completion, schools must fulfill acquittal requirements as outlined in the Deed. Unsuccessful applicants can request feedback, and projects suitable for funding but outside the available allocation are placed on a reserve list.

The deadline for applications is 3 November 2025.
