Request for Proposals: Greenbelt Foundation Grants (Canada)

Funding Opportunity: Strengthening Health, Education & Women’s Rights

Deadline: 05-Nov-2025

The Greenbelt Foundation is offering grants to support initiatives that enhance Ontario’s Greenbelt, a vital area providing clean air, fresh water, and a reliable local food source.

The foundation seeks to fund projects that align with its mission to steward and protect this two-million-acre region. The Resilient Greenbelt stream supports projects that enhance natural systems, such as improving species-at-risk habitat and restoring damaged habitats.

The Sustainable Greenbelt stream focuses on supporting local food and rural economies, promoting sustainable agriculture and good soil health practices. The Accessible Greenbelt stream aims to advance access, education, and engagement, leveraging the Greenbelt’s natural and cultural heritage for social benefit.

Funding requests can range from $25,000 to $100,000. The foundation’s grant program is structured around three funding streams: Resilient Greenbelt, Sustainable Greenbelt, and Accessible Greenbelt. Each stream focuses on different aspects of the Greenbelt’s preservation and enhancement. For the 2026 grant round, the foundation is accepting proposals for projects that can be completed by December 2026.

Eligible applicants include registered charities, incorporated non-profit organizations, municipalities, First Nations and Indigenous communities, and conservation authorities. Projects must have a direct connection to and impact on the Greenbelt. The foundation encourages collaborations and partnerships among organizations to maximize the effectiveness of funded initiatives.
