Request for Proposals: SHRF Align Grant Program (Canada)

Deadline: 23-Jul-2025

The Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation is now accepting applications for its SHRF Align Grant Program. This program aims to build a diverse and connected research community in Saskatchewan that is well-prepared to secure peer-reviewed funding and conduct impactful research aligned with local stakeholder needs.

Applications must meet three key objectives. First, they should increase research relevance, coordination, and impact by fostering interdisciplinary research teams, including partners outside academia. The program provides funding to support activities that tailor research to the Saskatchewan context and address provincial needs. Second, the grant seeks to improve the quality and success of Saskatchewan applications for peer-reviewed funding at regional, national, and international levels, including SHRF competitions. Third, it supports the development of Saskatchewan’s research and health professional trainees by offering experience in collaborative team building, stakeholder engagement, co-development of research questions, and related professional skills.

Applications may focus on any area of human health. Funding is available up to $10,000 for projects lasting up to one year.

Eligible activities include community needs assessments, defining the scope of health issues in Saskatchewan, planning next steps to move projects from pilot to implementation, identifying existing initiatives to reduce duplication, and building connections with stakeholders like patient groups, community organizations, decision makers, and Knowledge Keepers. Culturally appropriate engagement and co-development of research questions with stakeholders are encouraged to ensure relevance and appropriateness. Activities can also include identifying important outcomes, answering feasibility questions within the Saskatchewan context, and connecting with target audiences who may provide letters of support for future funding. Additionally, applicants can engage with potential private sector investors and showcase the practical, commercial, and market potential of their research. Sharing knowledge beyond academia is also a focus.

Principal applicants must meet the SHRF Funding Guide’s criteria for Principal Applicant. Teams must include at least one Saskatchewan-based trainee, either as personnel or co-applicant, with clearly described roles. Since this grant supports connections outside academia, including knowledge-users on the team is not mandatory. No contribution forms or extra documents are required from applicants or personnel, but supporters must provide letters of support.
