Deadline: 21-Aug-2025

The Department of Human Services is now accepting applications for Social Impact Grants through the Grants SA program. These grants support short-term projects, programs, and resources that promote strong, inclusive communities and enhance social and emotional wellbeing.

The funding aims to strengthen communities through five core goals: building belonging in inclusive spaces, connecting people to engagement opportunities, fostering skills for self-direction, promoting social and economic empowerment, and creating safe, supportive environments.

Grants of up to $10,000 are available for projects targeting groups experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage or facing barriers to accessing services. These include Aboriginal peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disabilities (especially those not covered by the NDIS), the LGBTIQA+ community, financially disadvantaged individuals, and residents of disadvantaged or remote areas.

Eligible expenses include equipment for community participation, resources for community gardens, digital access tools, infrastructure upgrades to improve accessibility, and intergenerational or mentoring projects. For example, grants can cover items like garden equipment, IT tools, accessible bathroom modifications, or volunteer training sessions.

However, certain costs are not eligible. These include core operational expenses, prizes, food relief, emergency equipment, research studies, sports-focused projects without broader community benefits, and projects already funded by the department.

Only specific organization types may apply. Eligible applicants include Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organizations (ACCOs), incorporated not-for-profits, and certified Social Enterprises. Organizations must have a valid ABN, an Australian bank account, and must be operating in South Australia for at least 12 months.

Ineligible applicants include individuals, for-profits, private companies, trusts (excluding fixed trusts), government agencies, educational institutions, and those with outstanding obligations to the Department. Organizations with gaming machines or licenses are also excluded.

This grant round presents a valuable opportunity for eligible South Australian organizations to uplift vulnerable communities and create inclusive, lasting social impact.
