The United Way Greater Toronto is pleased to announce its Jane Finch Community Action Grants to support neighbourhood-focused initiatives that advance key community priorities identified in local plans in Jane Finch.
The second round of the Community Action Grants invites both grassroots groups and agency-led teams to bring ideas informed by the Jane Finch Community Development Plan into action—sparking economic opportunity, food justice, community safety, vibrant public spaces, and anti-displacement efforts.
For resident- or grassroots-led efforts, small but impactful projects lasting up to six months are eligible, with funding between $5,000 and $20,000. These are meant to spark quick, neighbourhood-rooted solutions. In contrast, larger efforts involving agencies or collaborations can access $25,000 to $75,000 over as long as 18 months, enabling more comprehensive, sustained programming that responds to deeper needs.
Applicants are encouraged to lean into the wealth of community knowledge and planning that already exists. By aligning projects with local goals and ensuring diverse community leadership, applicants can navigate the process with authenticity and efficacy. Informational sessions—both online and overnight in neighbourhood hubs—alongside office hours provide ample support for those preparing proposals.
Resident groups must include at least five leaders who live in Jane Finch and work collaboratively, and their projects should go beyond meeting immediate needs to instead contribute to broader community resilience. Alliance-based projects led by registered charities or incorporated nonprofits must demonstrate established financial and collaborative capacity, while anchoring their work locally.
This grant round presents more than funding—it provides a launchpad for local ideas that reflect the lived experiences of Jane Finch residents. Whether it’s a short-term, community-focused activation or a long-term, multi-stakeholder initiative, this is a meaningful opportunity to invest in shared identity, equity, and place-based progress.
