Deadline: 31-Dec-2025
The Micro-Grant Scheme has been created to support small-scale community activities and local initiatives that bring positive social impact to people across the City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian, West Lothian, the Scottish Borders and Fife.
This funding opportunity is designed to empower community organisations and charities by providing up to £500 to help them deliver meaningful projects that strengthen local connections and address key social challenges.
Projects supported through this scheme are expected to contribute to at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including reducing poverty, improving health and wellbeing, expanding access to quality education, supporting decent work and economic growth, reducing inequalities, and building sustainable cities and communities. By aligning with these global priorities, the scheme ensures that even small community-led actions can have long-lasting and transformative effects.
Applications are open to not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises, with all submissions reviewed by a dedicated panel. The fund is designed to be accessible and flexible, supporting grassroots efforts that directly benefit local people. Staff and students from local universities may also apply, provided their project is delivered through an organisation such as a student society and engages residents beyond the university community.
Certain restrictions apply to ensure the scheme remains focused on community benefit. Standard for-profit businesses, individuals, and organisations with an annual income over £1 million are not eligible. Statutory bodies, including schools, cannot apply directly, although activities hosted on their premises or in partnership with them may still qualify. Organisations must have a governing document and a bank account in order to receive funding, and those promoting solely political or religious objectives, or facing serious financial instability, are not eligible.
