Township of Malahide announces Community Grant Program (Canada)

RFPs: Sawfish Conservation Society Small Research Grant 2025

Deadline: 31-Oct-2025

The Community Grants Program has been designed to provide a clear framework of guidelines and procedures for distributing grants from the Township to eligible organizations, ensuring transparency, accountability, and the effective use of public funds to strengthen community initiatives that reflect the Township’s strategic goals.

All grants are dependent on their inclusion in the Township’s annual operating budget, highlighting the importance of responsible financial planning. By offering financial support to local organizations and community projects, the program seeks to achieve multiple objectives. It aims to enhance and expand community services and programs that directly benefit residents, ensuring they have access to valuable resources and opportunities.

It also seeks to support and strengthen non-profit organizations, recognizing the crucial role they play in fostering community well-being and delivering vital services. Additionally, the program encourages volunteerism and active engagement, valuing the contributions of citizens who dedicate their time and effort to building a vibrant and connected community. Another important goal is to leverage community assets and foster partnerships, maximizing the impact of resources through collaboration and shared responsibility. Above all, the program is committed to advancing the Township’s broader strategic and service objectives, ensuring that funding decisions contribute to the community’s long-term development and sustainability.

To be eligible for the Township’s Community Grants Program, applicants must meet specific criteria designed to ensure accountability and alignment with community priorities.

Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations and community groups that are volunteer-driven, operate with a mission to serve the community, and reinvest any surplus funds back into their activities rather than seeking profit. Applicants must also demonstrate that their programs or initiatives directly serve and benefit the local community by addressing identified needs. Furthermore, they must be in good financial standing, which requires having no outstanding debts with the Township, maintaining compliance with all previous financial agreements, and showing a consistent record of financial responsibility and transparency.

On the other hand, certain organizations are deemed ineligible for participation. These include government agencies and cemetery boards at municipal, provincial, or federal levels, as their responsibilities already encompass public administration and service provision. Individuals are also excluded, as the program is intended to strengthen organized community initiatives rather than fund personal endeavors.

In addition, organizations that have engaged in legal claims against the Township are not eligible, as past disputes create concerns around accountability and future cooperation. Finally, organizations that have failed to comply with the requirements of previous grants—such as misusing funds, misrepresenting financial status, or neglecting project deadlines—may be restricted from applying again or disqualified entirely. Through these structured guidelines and eligibility criteria, the Community Grants Program ensures that Township resources are directed toward organizations and initiatives that will have the most meaningful, accountable, and lasting impact on the community.
