UN Joint Programme for Urban and Rural Resilience and Recovery in Aleppo (Syria)

Deadline: 22-Oct-2025

The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a new initiative in Aleppo Governorate, Syrian Arab Republic, under the UN Joint Programme to Strengthen Urban and Rural Resilience and Recovery.

The programme focuses on revitalizing livelihoods and rebuilding local economies through sustainable agricultural development, vocational training, and climate-resilient production systems.

The project aims to enhance agricultural value chains by improving production efficiency and expanding access to modern equipment. Climate-adaptive fodder production sets will be distributed to farmers to strengthen livestock management and reduce vulnerability to environmental shocks. Additionally, the programme will support the installation and delivery of agricultural machinery, including processing units, corn dryers, and laser land-levelling machines, to modernize production and boost productivity across rural communities.

A key component of the initiative is capacity development, with tailored training programmes for farmers—particularly women—on value chain optimization and climate-smart agricultural techniques. By equipping local producers with the skills and tools necessary to adopt sustainable practices, WFP seeks to build long-term resilience, increase food security, and stimulate economic recovery in areas affected by conflict.

Through a combination of cash and voucher assistance, community mobilization, and technical and vocational training, the project promotes inclusive participation and empowers local communities to rebuild livelihoods. The initiative not only restores agricultural systems but also creates new opportunities for smallholder farmers and rural entrepreneurs, contributing to broader social and economic stability in Aleppo.
