Deadline: 20-May-24
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is inviting applications for Women Transforming Beautiful Justice Project for women’s groups or organizations at the regional, provincial, district or communal level to present a social innovation initiative that is being implemented in the Huancavelica, Junín, Cajamarca or Lima Este regions, aimed at strengthening female leadership linked to the prevention and attention of gender violence, in order to enhance its processes, make its relevant actors visible and contribute to its sustainability.
The role of Justice of the Peace in rural areas is of utmost importance, even more so when it is usually the only instance of state justice administration to which women victims of violence who live in rural areas can go. According to Law No. 29824, Justice of the Peace Law, judges of the peace have jurisdiction to exercise jurisdictional functions and respond to complaints of violence against women and members of the family group, granting protection measures to victims and punishing them to the aggressor in cases of minor criminal offenses; also providing for coordination with ordinary justice and special justice authorities.
In this sense, the Judiciary and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with the support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), implement the “Sumaq Justicia. A justice of peace in the face of violence” in the judicial districts of Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Junín and Lima Este, with the aim of contributing to the reduction of gender violence in the Andean areas of Peru by improving peace justice services and the care routes for cases of gender violence, through the articulation of peace justice with ordinary justice and local and ronderiles networks, fundamentally those made up of female leaders.
