Waitaki District Council’s Community Group Grants in New Zealand

#image_title

Deadline: 05-Sep-2025

The Waitaki District Council’s Community Group Grants offer local not-for-profit organisations a chance to access financial support for projects that directly benefit the community.

Designed to encourage grassroots development and community engagement, this funding helps groups bring to life initiatives that otherwise may not be possible without support. The program welcomes applications for a variety of one-off services, activities, or events that contribute to the social, cultural, or environmental wellbeing of the district.

To be eligible, applicants must meet specific criteria. They must operate on a not-for-profit basis and either be based in the Waitaki District or deliver services that benefit people within it. Projects must address a clearly identified need in the community and demonstrate that without Council funding, the project would not proceed. Additionally, groups are required to show they are making a contribution of their own—whether through finances, volunteer time, or resources—and must account for all funding received.

The funding is structured into two rounds each year, with a total of $75,000 available annually. This is split evenly, allocating $37,500 per round. These defined rounds ensure a fair and transparent process, and give groups two opportunities each year to submit applications and plan their activities around potential funding outcomes.

Accountability is a key part of the process. Successful applicants must submit a report within six months detailing how the grant was used and the impact of the project. Supporting evidence such as receipts or invoices must accompany this report. Failure to meet these accountability requirements may affect eligibility for future grants.

This grant program is more than a financial resource—it is an investment in the people and ideas that shape the Waitaki community. By supporting projects that meet local needs and encouraging shared responsibility, the Council is helping foster a resilient, connected, and vibrant district. For community groups with a vision and commitment to making a difference, this funding represents a real and accessible opportunity to bring that vision to life.
