Waste Minimisation and Resource Recovery Grant Program in Australia

Ireland: Cork City Council Waste Prevention Grant Scheme 2023

Deadline: 18-Aug-2025

The Waste Minimisation and Resource Recovery Grant Program offers funding opportunities for eligible businesses, community groups, and schools to support innovative waste management projects aimed at reducing landfill waste. Mildura Rural City Council (MRCC) recognizes the importance of promoting better waste management within the local community and provides this grant to help decrease landfill waste by supporting projects focused on waste minimisation, circular economy principles, or increased resource recovery.

Applicants can receive funding of up to $20,000 (GST free) per year. Eligible applicants include businesses with an Australian Business Number (ABN), incorporated and non-incorporated community groups, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, such as commercial businesses, incorporated associations, and community groups. State government entities may also apply for activities beyond their usual government responsibilities, including schools, as long as the funding is not for infrastructure or part of the standard curriculum.

Some projects and applicants are ineligible for funding. These include projects needing ongoing funding from the Council, waste services already provided by the Council or private waste companies, or projects that fall under the responsibility of other levels of government. Projects previously funded through other Council grants are also excluded.

The program does not fund management or administrative support costs, salaries, ongoing operational costs like rent or utilities, or computer products not directly contributing to the project. It also excludes funding for consumables or equipment unrelated to the project, political purposes, religious groups unless demonstrating broader community benefit, individual assistance, projects producing commercial products without community benefit, general fundraising campaigns, or projects promoting gambling, alcohol, drugs, or tobacco.

Travel, study, conference expenses, or feasibility studies are not eligible. Applicants who have not properly completed prior Council grants cannot apply. Projects that duplicate or compete with existing community services are ineligible, though those that complement or expand current programs may be considered. Projects that have already started or will begin before grant approval cannot receive funding, nor can costs for preparing grant applications or sourcing quotes be funded.
