Wawanesa Community Wildfire Prevention Grants (Canada)

Applications open for Gilead Australia Community Grants Program 2025

#image_title

Deadline: 09-Dec-2025

The Wawanesa Community Wildfire Prevention Grant supports efforts to build safer, more resilient communities through wildfire prevention and education across Canada.

The focus areas of the program are prevention—reducing the likelihood of wildfire by changing behaviours, and mitigation—reducing the impacts of wildfires through measures such as fuel reduction. Projects must align with one of FireSmart Canada’s seven disciplines to help neighbourhoods address the impacts of wildfire. The funding cannot be used for wildfire response or suppression equipment, prescribed burn activities, or normal operations of an organization.

In partnership with FireSmart Canada and the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR), Wawanesa offers ten grants of up to $20,000 each to help communities reduce their risk of loss from wildfire through proactive prevention activities. The grant program aims to strengthen a culture of wildfire prevention and encourage education and community-level engagement in reducing wildfire risks.

Eligible applicants include fire departments, municipalities, Indigenous communities, home or neighbourhood associations, non-profit and charitable organizations, and citizen or volunteer community groups. Applications from communities that are disproportionately affected by wildfires may receive priority consideration. Applicants must demonstrate a clear need for funding and ensure that their projects do not conflict with other funding programs operated by FireSmart™ Canada or the ICLR.

This funding opportunity provides communities with the resources to develop meaningful wildfire risk reduction initiatives that promote education, prevention, and resilience against the growing threat of wildfires.
