UNDP’s Local Elections (& Local Governance) project, with support from the European Union, announces the launch of a simulation of a Youth Municipal Council (YMC).

UNDP is looking for a group of motivated and ambitious youth (aged 18-30), who are interested in civic engagement and democratic participation at the local level and who are thriller to take part of this YMC pilot initiative covering several municipalities in Tripoli.

The YMC is a youth program that aims to enhance the ability of young people to play a more effective role in their municipalities. This would be achieved through forming a youth council, which aquires knowledge and awareness about the daily work of the municipal council, its proceedings and procedures, including the legal framework governing the municipalities (Law No.59 & Bylaws).

The selected youth will work in close cooperation with the Municipal Council Support Team of the UNDP project, and will engage with several municipal councils of greater Tripoli after an induction and training period. YMC will also engage with citizens and specifically the youth of the municipalities.
