Apply for Young Adults Grant Program (New Zealand)

Submissions open for Matla Grants Program 2025

Deadline: 20-Nov-2025

The Wilson Home Trust Young Adults Grant Program identifies and supports the needs of young adults as they transition into adulthood.

This initiative focuses on empowering young adults with physical disabilities to pursue independence and achieve their personal goals.

It supports a wide range of needs such as tertiary education, accommodation when moving out of the family home, travel, purchasing or modifying a vehicle, obtaining driving lessons, acquiring communication equipment, and enhancing mental wellbeing.

The Wilson Home Trust provides several categories of funding, including up to $5,750 for equipment or activity, $690 for counselling, $2,300 for holidays, and $3,450 for young adults, with one application permitted per year until the grant limit is reached, bringing the total available support to $12,190.

The Wilson Home Trust Young Adults Grant offers financial support of up to $3,450 including GST for eligible applicants aged 17 to 21 who qualify as WHT beneficiaries. To qualify, applicants must be aged 21 or under and have a physical disability that primarily impairs the function of the body or limbs.

While additional sensory or intellectual disabilities may be present, the primary reason for funding must relate to the physical disability. The child or young person’s disability must be described in terms of impairments, activity limitations, or participation restrictions, as defined by the World Health Organisation.

Each application must include a signed support letter on letterhead from a health professional such as a doctor, occupational therapist, or physiotherapist confirming that they know the applicant, that the applicant has a physical disability, and that the disability is the primary reason for the requested assistance.

The professional must also confirm the applicant’s need and that they live within the qualifying area. First-time applicants must provide a copy of their passport or driving license as proof of identity and a medical certificate verifying their diagnosis and physical disability. If the disability evidence is unclear, a Verification of Diagnosis form may be required.

Applicants are also required to submit two quotes from different suppliers, including delivery or freight charges. If only one supplier is available, this must be stated clearly. Only one application can be submitted every twelve months, and retrospective applications for items or services already purchased are not accepted.

The deadline for applications is 20 November 2025.
