NBA Foundation Grant Program in Canada and US

US: Capacity Building Grant for Small Nonprofits ($20,000 Unrestricted Grant)

Deadline: 14-Nov-2025

The NBA Foundation invests in making grants to local and national organizations serving under-resourced youth.

Its mission is to create economic opportunities and reduce employment disparities for under-resourced youth, defined as individuals aged 14 to 24 who are talented and ambitious but face systemic barriers to education, networks, and career opportunities. By supporting these young people, the Foundation aims to foster social mobility and economic empowerment.

Grants from the NBA Foundation typically average $250,000, representing around 10-12% of an organization’s budget, with a minimum grant of $25,000. Requested amounts should align with the organization’s overall budget, project budget, and anticipated funding from other sources.

Eligible organizations must be registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entities in the U.S. or T3010-registered organizations in Canada. They must provide a current IRS Form 990 or T3010 return, focus on school-to-career programs for under-resourced youth aged 14-24 in markets with an NBA team, and serve at least 25 youth annually. Applicants are also required to submit an organizational budget, project budget, and a list of board members.

The NBA Foundation offers two annual application windows. For the current fiscal year, The Foundation prioritizes programs that equip youth with the skills, mentorship, and opportunities necessary to pursue higher education and enter the workforce, creating lasting impact in their communities.
