Deadline: 26-Sep-2025
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has launched a Call for Proposals under the Small Grants Programme (SGP) in Thailand.
This programme offers support to civil society and community-based organizations (CSOs/CBOs) to address global environmental challenges while contributing to local sustainable development goals. Since its launch in 2015, SGP Thailand has successfully funded and provided technical support to more than 70 local projects, driving both environmental protection and community resilience.
This call marks the preparatory phase for the Eighth Operational Phase (OP8) of the Small Grants Programme, which builds on over 30 years of experience empowering local communities. OP8 aims to engage CSOs and CBOs in community-driven initiatives that promote household wellbeing, raise awareness of environmental threats, and generate global environmental benefits. The focus is on addressing the growing pressures from economic development, rising inequalities, and environmental degradation, which have left many vulnerable groups increasingly marginalized and at risk.
Through this call, UNDP seeks proposals that will support the development of a Country Programme Strategy (CPS) for OP8. This includes conducting multi-stakeholder consultations, preparing baseline assessments of priority landscapes or seascapes, and drafting the strategy in close coordination with the SGP National Coordinator, the UNDP country office, and the National Steering Committee in Thailand. The direct and final beneficiaries of the selected projects will be local CSOs and CBOs who will play a central role in shaping future environmental action.
Eligible organizations must meet the criteria outlined in UNDP’s NGO Request for Information template. Proposals can request up to USD 25,000, including a maximum of 15 percent overhead costs, and should be aligned with the organization’s financial and administrative capacity. While proposals must be submitted in USD, payments to organizations based in Thailand will be made in Thai Baht at the prevailing UN exchange rate. Each project should be designed to be completed within a maximum of five months.
Proposals will undergo a five-step selection process involving eligibility screening, technical review, scoring and ranking, possible clarification rounds, and the signing of a Responsible Party Agreement with the selected organization. This initiative presents a vital opportunity for local civil society groups in Thailand to contribute to shaping SGP’s long-term strategy while strengthening their role in protecting biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and advancing climate resilience in their communities.
