The Asia New Zealand Foundation’s Japan study grants assist secondary school classes (Years 9 to 13) to travel to Japan for study tours.
Japan Study grants are currently available to secondary schools for use towards study tours from June 2023 to December 2024.
The Foundation’s Japan study grants are designed to:
- encourage New Zealand students to participate in exchanges to Japan
- increase connections between New Zealand and Japan and
- contribute to New Zealand students’ knowledge and experience of Japan
Funding Information
- Schools can seek grants of up to $5000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, schools that apply must:
- be a New Zealand secondary school
- offer Japanese language as a senior subject
- have a confirmed itinerary planned for developing students’ Japanese language skills and increasing their understanding of Japanese culture.
Selection Criteria
- Selection of schools will be assessed based on the full itinerary provided, and the following aspects will be considered:
- duration of trip, at least 5 days
- opportunity for students to experience homestay, visit a local school, or be involved in community activities
- planned activities for students to learn about Japanese culture
- planned activities for students to use Japanese language.
- Applications will be assessed by a panel comprising Asia New Zealand Foundation staff and an external stakeholder.
- It will take the Foundation about two weeks after the application deadline to notify applicants of the outcome.
