#grants_for_artists

Deadline: 01-Dec-2025

The Keidanren Nature Conservation Fund (KNCF) has opened applications for its 2026 Grant Program, supporting activities that contribute to the targets of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

The Fund aims to advance biodiversity conservation, align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and foster human resource development to promote long-term environmental sustainability.

Eligible projects must be based in developing countries, primarily across the Asia-Pacific region, or within Japan. Activities may include biodiversity preservation, initiatives addressing social issues connected to biodiversity, and educational or training programs that build human capacity for conservation. Applicants must ensure cooperation with local governments, NGOs, international organizations, and residents, while projects should be scientifically grounded and designed to benefit communities rather than individuals.

Organizations applying must be legally incorporated or recognized voluntary bodies with at least three years of experience in nature conservation. They must also be able to provide reliable financial statements or audits for the past three years and demonstrate credibility in managing grants responsibly.

KNCF offers four categories of grants. The Basic A Grant provides up to 1 million Yen for first-time applicants with simplified reporting requirements, while the Basic B Grant, also capped at 1 million Yen, supports grassroots organizations in UN-designated Least Developed Countries. The Standard Grant offers mid-sized funding of up to 10 million Yen for projects at early stages or introducing innovative approaches. The Collaboration Grant, designed for joint projects involving multiple NGOs, provides up to 20 million Yen annually over three years and emphasizes synergy, community engagement, and partnerships with local businesses.

The funding period runs from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, with the exception of Collaboration Grants, which extend through March 2029. Eligible expenses include materials, equipment, expert fees, temporary staff, travel, communication, and publishing costs. However, personnel costs for permanent staff and full outsourcing are not covered, with partial outsourcing limited to 10% of the total grant amount.

Through this program, KNCF reaffirms its commitment to strengthening biodiversity conservation initiatives, fostering innovation, and encouraging collaboration, while ensuring that projects directly contribute to the global effort to achieve the goals of the GBF.
