Apply for Toshiba International Foundation Grant Program in Japan

Small Grants Programme for World Day for Assistive Technology

Deadline: 30-Nov-2025

The Toshiba International Foundation (TIFO) invites applications for its grant program, which supports projects aimed at deepening international understanding of Japan.

Through targeted funding, TIFO seeks to foster cultural exchange, research, and educational initiatives that build bridges between Japan and the global community.

Projects eligible for support fall into four distinct categories: symposia and seminars, cultural programs, academic research and studies, and initiatives that nurture future experts in Japanese studies. All proposed activities must align with TIFO’s mission of promoting awareness and appreciation of Japan beyond its borders.

Proposals that seek funding for personal research, individual scholarships, or studies abroad are not eligible. Likewise, TIFO does not accept applications requesting lump-sum support for multi-year projects. However, multi-year initiatives of up to three years can apply annually, with each year’s continuation subject to TIFO’s evaluation.

To ensure equitable support distribution, organizations that have received grants for three consecutive years under the same program will generally not be eligible for a fourth year, except in rare, exceptional cases. This policy encourages broader access to funding across a more diverse range of applicants.

All grant funds must be strictly used for the project as outlined in the application, with no allowance for expenses outside the approved budget. Applicants are required to submit their proposals using the official downloadable form provided on TIFO’s website.

This grant program represents a valuable opportunity for organizations worldwide to contribute meaningfully to cross-cultural understanding, while showcasing and exploring Japan’s rich heritage, society, and global contributions.
