The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs (EAP)  is currently inviting applications form organizations for its Pacific Island Marine Protected Area Projects with an aim to develop and manage projects leading to the creation and implementation of more, effectively managed Marine Protected Areas (MPA) in the Pacific Islands region.

The Pacific Islands region is marked by recent success and significant momentum in the creation of MPAs. MPAs are safe havens for marine resources and can serve as living laboratories that are crucial to scientific research and discoveries that benefit humankind. MPAs can also boost economic activity in the countries they are created in by increasing fish stocks sustainability and created new or improved opportunities for tourism.
