This solicitation is part of the Comprehensive School Safety Initiative (CSSI). This program furthers the Department’s mission by funding rigorous research to produce practical knowledge and tools that can improve the safety of schools and students. The Initiative is carried out through partnerships between researchers, educators, and other stakeholders, including law enforcement, behavioral and mental health professionals, courts, and other justice system professionals. Projects funded under the CSSI are designed to produce knowledge and tools that can be applied to schools and school districts across the nation for years to come.

Award Information

Total funding for this solicitation and the number of awards will depend on the availability of appropriated funds, the quality of the applications, and other pertinent factors. NIJ anticipates up to $6 million will be available in FY 2017 to fund one or more awards. The duration of the award period of performance will depend on the research proposed. Awards will normally not exceed a three-year period of performance.
