U.S. Embassy, Islamabad seeking Applications for Pakistan Community Education and Development Program

Research Program on Margins of Adjustments to Labor Market Shocks in MENA

Deadline: 13 May 2019

The Cultural Affairs Office (CAO) in the Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy Islamabad of the U.S. Department of State (hereafter referred to as “CAO Islamabad”) has announced an open competition for assistance awards through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), contingent on funding availability, through the Public Diplomacy Grants Program.

U.S. Mission Pakistan supports education programs that contribute to economic growth and help mitigate the threat of social instability in Pakistan. Effective education programs can prepare Pakistanis, especially youth, teachers, and community leaders, to better participate in the global community, provide professional development for key multipliers, and enhance economic opportunities for the broader community. The four projects announced in this NOFO strengthen the capacity of key Pakistani change-makers and thought leaders, which in turn expands educational opportunities and linkages to the United States for the Pakistani people, especially youth and marginalized populations.

Projects

This NOFO aims to support CAO Islamabad’s initiatives to promote and strengthen Pakistani educational institutions through the following projects:

  1. Developing and Incorporating Massive Open Online Courses
    • Project Goal: Pakistani educators expand access to education to underserved communities by incorporating MOOCs into their curriculum.
    • Objective 1: U.S. and Pakistani partners develop a MOOC platform for audiences of Pakistani educators.
    • Objective 2: Pakistani educators integrate MOOC content and independent learning strategies into their curriculum.
  2. Community Leadership Development and Small Grants Program
    • Project Goal: Expand community leadership and local development.
    • Objective 1: Pakistani leaders from underserved communities gain knowledge and skills in addressing local issues by identifying problems, creating solutions, garnering resources, and implementing projects.
    • Objective 2: Participants apply the knowledge and skills from this program to address an issue in their community.
  3. Connecting Pakistani and American High School Classrooms
    • Project Goal: Increase mutual understanding, knowledge, and skills through collaboration between teachers and students from the United States and Pakistan.
    • Objective 1: Pakistani and U.S. students develop relationships with one another and increase knowledge about each other’s cultures.
    • Objective 2: Pakistani students gain interpersonal skills and conversational English language.
  4. Exchange for Pakistani Secondary Educators/Administrators (EPSEA)
    • Project Goal: Improve capacity of Pakistani educators and increase their understanding of the United States.
    • Objective 1: Participants share their U.S. exchange experiences with their peers, colleagues, and students.
    • Objective 2: Participants adapt their own curriculum to incorporate lessons, principles, and concepts learned during EPSEA.
