The U.S. Consulate General in Almaty, Kazakhstan of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out EducationUSA Student Advising in Shymkent and surrounding regions.

Goal and Objective

Goal:  Provide students in Shymkent access to U.S. higher education opportunities.

Objective 1:  Ensure students have access to accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States.

The U.S. Consulate General in Almaty, Kazakhstan, acting through the Office of Public Affairs (PAS), is pleased to announce a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the following program: EDUCATIONUSA STUDENT ADVISING – SHYMKENT.  The awardee will conduct EducationUSA Student Advising in Shymkent and surrounding areas, coordinating regular events with American Corner Shymkent.  EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 400 international student advising centers in more than 170 countries. The network promotes U.S. higher education to students around the world by offering accurate, comprehensive, and current information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States. In addition, EducationUSA assists the U.S. higher education community in their overseas enrollment outreach and development of recruitment strategies and provides information on the complex U.S. higher education system to foreign governments and institutions.

With the goal of increasing student mobility between the United States and Kazakhstan through EducationUSA advising, project proposals will be evaluated by U.S. Consulate General Almaty based on compliance with proposal guidelines and mandatory components, evaluation of qualifications, evidence of clearly formulated goals, low project implementation costs, project sustainability, and capacity to carry out the project.

Participants and Audiences

Target audiences are high school students preparing for college and interested in attending higher education institutions in the United States, as well as their parents; high school teachers, administrators, and guidance counselors.  Advising will also be given to current college students who seek to transfer to a U.S. institution and do study abroad short-term enrollment at a U.S. institution, as well as students seeking information and assistance applying to graduate programs in the United States.
