Deadline: 11-Dec-2025
The Ian Potter Foundation has opened its Environment program under the “Sustainable” pillar, inviting applications from not-for-profit organisations working to protect and restore Australia’s natural ecosystems.
The program focuses on initiatives that contribute to long-term environmental health, sustainable resource management, climate resilience, biodiversity protection and community-driven conservation. It aims to support organisations that are capable of delivering significant and lasting impact rather than short-term or one-off activities.
This funding area considers large grants starting from $100,000 and may include multi-year support. Projects may take place across land, freshwater, marine and coastal environments, reflecting the interconnected nature of ecological systems. The Foundation encourages work that is bold, strategic and preventive in nature—addressing the underlying causes of environmental degradation while promoting ecosystem restoration, regenerative approaches and innovative conservation practices.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate a strong evidence base for their approach, a clear plan for implementation, and the capacity to measure and communicate outcomes. Priority is given to initiatives that foster collaboration, build sector resilience, and can be sustained or scaled beyond the grant period. Partnerships between community groups, conservation organisations, researchers, landholders and Traditional Owners are particularly encouraged, recognising the collective effort required to safeguard biodiversity and natural assets.
By providing significant philanthropic funding, the Ian Potter Foundation seeks to strengthen Australia’s environmental sector and support long-term, systemic change. For organisations working to restore landscapes, protect threatened species, regenerate ecosystems or trial innovative conservation models, this program offers an opportunity to deepen impact and contribute to a more sustainable and resilient future.
