The Jewish National Fund of Canada Inc. (“JNF Canada”) is pleased to invite teams from qualifying organizations in Quebec to participate in its inaugural Climate Solutions Prize – Quebec Prize (the “Prize”).
The primary goal of the Prize is to help solve the climate crisis by galvanizing scientists and researchers in Quebec to develop breakthrough climate solutions. Selected teams will use awards from the Prize to further and, in due course, publish their research. For decades, JNF Canada has been planting trees and creating public parks, among other environmental projects. Because of its historical and organizational DNA, JNF Canada is uniquely positioned to lead this initiative, which will build on its existing work while making an even greater impact.
Objectives and Consequences of the Prize
- Spurring increased funding and investment in innovation in Quebec to solve the climate crisis through breakthrough solutions that will decrease carbon emissions and/or increase carbon sequestration.
- Promoting the best ideas to speed the process of implementing the global and practical solutions that will most reduce climate change.
- Positively impacting Quebec’s economy and global image by being a leading source of impactful solutions for the world’s most pressing issue.
Prize Information
- The total funding for the Prize in 2024 is CAD $250,000. From within that envelope, a CAD $150,000 grant will be awarded to the first place Team and a CAD $100,000 grant to the second place Team (each, an “Award”).
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for consideration, the climate solution proposed by a Team must focus on one or more of the following areas:
- innovations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (i.e., carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4));
- innovations to improve energy efficiency, renewable energy, and/or energy storage; and/or
- innovations to increase carbon sequestration, whether by forests or other natural systems or innovations in artificial carbon sequestration.
- In addition:
- the solution’s proof of concept must have been validated;
- the solution must be in or entering its developmental stage; or
- the solution must be on the verge of being ready for commercialization.
