The International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) is seeking applications for its Competition “Promoting Ukraine’s Participation in the European Green Course“ that strengthen the role, voice and capacity of civil society in helping to align Ukraine’s environmental, economic and other sectoral policies with the European Green Course.
This competition aims to support civil society in responding to the challenges of environmental degradation and climate change, promoting the formation of responsible national environmental and climate policies, taking into account the priorities of the European Green Course.
At the end of 2019, the European Commission adopted the European Green Deal, a program of EU action centered on an ambitious plan for a transition to a climate-neutral Europe and full decarbonisation.
In 2020, the International Renaissance Foundation (IRF), with EU financial support, launched the EU4USociety project. The overall goal of the Project is to strengthen the involvement, sustainability, capacity, relevance and influence of Ukrainian civil society in addressing current domestic, regional and global challenges.
Priority Areas
Competitive projects may include informational, educational and public advocacy activities, preparation of analytical documents, organization of stakeholder dialogues, public discussions, etc. in the following areas:
- Dissemination of best environmental and climate practices among businesses, local communities and other communities / stakeholders, development of cross-sectoral public dialogue aimed at green growth, adaptation to climate change and its mitigation, use of EPC opportunities for innovative development of production, trade and investments;
- Promoting the harmonization of state policy with the objectives of the EPC, making appropriate changes to national strategic documents and legislation on environmental protection, economic and sectoral development; expert monitoring and support of harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU legislation in the context of the objectives of the EPC and the Association Agreement;
- Monitoring the dynamics of PES implementation in the EU, development and adoption of EU strategies, plans and legislation, analysis of potential impact for Ukraine, its participation in PES and dialogue with the EU;
- Foreign policy and security dimension of Ukraine’s participation in the EPC, support for global climate dialogue, “green diplomacy”, in particular, for relations with other global players and in the context of Russian aggression.
Grant Information
- The minimum grant amount is UAH 100,000.
- The maximum grant amount is UAH 900,000.
- The optimal size of the grant is UAH 500,000-600,000.
- The total budget of the competition is UAH 3,300,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- Contest participants:
- Public organizations, unions, associations, societies and other associations registered in accordance with Ukrainian legislation as non-profit or charitable organizations.
- Requirements for project proposals:
- The objectives and expected results of the project must correspond to the priorities of the competition;
- The content of the project proposal should contain a brief preliminary analysis of the problem, which indicates the applicant’s awareness of the project, the positions of authorities and interest groups, the current state of discussion in Ukraine and the EU;
- The maximum project implementation period is 12 months. The planned start date of project implementation is December 2020 / January 2021.
