Applications open for King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme

Fellowship

Deadline: 19-Nov-2025

The Association of Commonwealth Universities is inviting applications for its King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme to provide professionals working on the frontline of climate adaptation from across the public sector, civil society, and private sector in Commonwealth SIDS with an accredited one-year professional development programme focused on climate adaptation practice.

The fellowship aims to build long-term climate resilience in Commonwealth SIDS by enhancing the skills of mid-career professionals, facilitating collaboration and implementation of adaptation solutions, fostering an international network of climate adaptation experts, and promoting inclusive approaches that prioritize gender, equality, and local and indigenous communities.

The fellowship is a fully funded, one-year professional development programme in climate adaptation, combining an 18-week online course, a five-day in-person residential in Fiji, and a five-month workplace-based applied learning project, all grounded in participants’ real-world experiences.

Participants will gain access to practical tools that enable them to respond effectively to the current climate crisis while building long-term resilience. Additionally, fellows will join a virtual Community of Practice that facilitates shared problem-solving and knowledge exchange.

The course allows participants to continue their employment during the fellowship and aims to achieve formal accreditation as a Postgraduate Certificate, ensuring the academic and professional value of the programme.

The full Fellowship is free to access and participate in. All costs associated for participation in the in-person residential are covered by the Fellowship (travel, subsistence, accommodation, visas etc.). Each fellow will be provided GBP 1,000 to cover expenses associated with the applied learning project (such as travel expenses, workshop resources, online tools, etc.)

Eligible applicants are mid-career professionals with 5–15 years of direct or related experience in climate adaptation practice, employed in an organisation registered in an eligible Commonwealth SIDS country with a valid contract through at least February 2027.

They must be citizens of or have refugee status in an eligible country, with their permanent home in that country. Eligible nations include Mauritius, Seychelles, the Maldives, Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

The course curriculum covers a comprehensive sequence of learning, beginning with an orientation, followed by modules on climate literacy, inter-sectoral collaboration, influencing policy, and climate finance. Each module integrates breaks for reflection and concludes with an in-person collaborative session in Fiji, where participants design their applied learning projects. The fellowship culminates in the submission of a project report in Week 46.

Applications for the KCFP Climate Resilience Fellowships are open until 13:00 UTC on Wednesday, 19 November 2025.
