Apply for Steel Accompanying Measures Projects 2025

CFPs: Roadmap to Rebuild, Modernize, and Decarbonize the Ukraine Steel Industry

Deadline: 24-Sep-2025

The European Commission is now accepting applications for the Steel Accompanying Measures Projects under the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS). These projects are designed to support the transformation of the steel industry by fostering knowledge sharing, workshops, and collaboration across sectors.

Proposals must contribute to one or more RFCS objectives for steel. These include developing sustainable and low-carbon steelmaking and finishing processes, advancing new steel grades and applications, promoting resource conservation and circular economy practices, and improving workforce management and working conditions.

Steel Accompanying Measures focus on initiatives that help apply existing knowledge or organize targeted events to support the RFCS’s strategic priorities. Each project should address at least one key theme such as attracting talent and building skills in the steel industry or informing decision-makers with the latest data on innovative steel technologies and decarbonization scenarios. Proposals may also use insights from EU or international projects to benchmark progress in the sector.

The total call budget is EUR 40 million, with EUR 1 million allocated specifically for Steel Accompanying Measures. Projects should include a well-balanced consortium of academic institutions, research centers, industry partners, and associations relevant to the steel sector.

Successful proposals are expected to support the decarbonization of the EU steel industry and may offer policy recommendations that align with the EU’s digital, green, and circular economy goals under the European Green Deal.

Eligible applicants must be legal entities—either public or private—that are engaged in or contribute significantly to research and technological development. These entities must be established in EU Member States, including their overseas territories, or in countries associated with the RFCS.
