Environmental Conservation of the Grassroots Environmental Grants (Round 1) – Australia

Request for Applications: WBF Move Grants

Deadline: 08-Oct-2025

The Grassroots Environmental Grants program offers an exciting opportunity for organisations in Queensland to receive funding for projects that protect and preserve the state’s natural and built environment.

This program aims to help groups increase their capacity to improve sustainability and safeguard biodiversity across Queensland.

Funding is available in two categories. Smaller grants, up to $15,000, can be used to purchase equipment like tools for weeding and revegetation, camera traps, personal protective equipment, and facility upgrades such as irrigation systems or water tanks. These grants help organisations strengthen their ability to carry out environmental conservation activities.

Larger grants, up to $30,000, are designed for on-ground projects that actively work to rehabilitate, protect, and improve biodiversity and habitats. These projects play a direct role in safeguarding Queensland’s natural environments and making a tangible difference in conservation efforts.

A wide range of organisations are eligible to apply for these grants. Incorporated associations, registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, Indigenous corporations, and natural resource management bodies can all seek funding to support their work. For unincorporated or unregistered groups, there is still an opportunity to participate by partnering with an eligible project sponsor, such as a school or local government authority.

Project sponsors take on legal and financial responsibility for the grant, ensuring the project is managed properly. While sponsors cannot financially benefit from the grant, they may be compensated for administrative support. The applicant organisation remains in charge of project delivery, budgeting, and reporting throughout the grant period.

This program provides a valuable way for community groups to access much-needed funding to enhance their environmental projects. It supports both the purchase of essential equipment and the delivery of impactful conservation work, helping to protect Queensland’s unique natural landscapes and biodiversity. Interested organisations are encouraged to explore this opportunity to strengthen their environmental efforts and make a lasting positive impact.
