Open Call: Strengthening Mandatory Environmental Reporting and Consideration of SLCPs in Cote d’Ivoire

Grassroots Funding for Environmental Organizations in Portugal

Deadline: 29-Aug-2025

The Climate and Clean Air Coalition has launched an open call for its initiative, “Strengthening Mandatory Environmental Reporting and Consideration of SLCPs by the Private Sector,” aimed at enhancing the reporting framework for companies in Côte d’Ivoire. This initiative focuses on sectors like transport, oil & gas, agriculture, waste management, and food & beverage, targeting improvements in how Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) emissions are reported. Currently, while private sector companies must report emissions under environmental compliance standards, not all greenhouse gases and SLCP emissions are included, and there is limited capacity at both national and industry levels to report effectively.

This project will foster a co-creation process between the Government of Côte d’Ivoire and the private sector to strengthen environmental compliance reporting standards. It also aims to enhance private sector engagement in climate commitments and improve reporting related to the country’s revised Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

The estimated project cost is $200,000. Expected outcomes include increased government capacity to incorporate SLCPs into mandatory reporting across private sector value chains. This will be achieved through assessing current legal frameworks, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements for SLCP emission reporting. Workshops will build capacity among regulatory bodies and private companies on emission assessment, integration of SLCPs into existing inventories, sustainability reporting, mitigation options, reduction plans, and impact assessments.

The government will also develop and adopt strengthened environmental compliance regulations integrating SLCP reporting requirements. This involves co-creation workshops, drafting guidance for regulators and private companies on reporting standards, and enhancing mandatory environmental impact assessment requirements.

To be eligible, project proposals must be submitted by NGOs, IGOs, or not-for-profits before the deadline, with budgets within the estimated amount or justified if higher. Projects should last less than 24 months, respecting spending caps. For-profit entities can participate only as stakeholders or co-funders, ideally involved in proposal development or implementation.

Proposals will be evaluated on clarity in achieving outcomes, plans for scaling or sustaining results, approaches to SLCP reductions with co-benefits, and inclusion of relevant stakeholders.
