The Denali Commission is inviting statements of interest for projects that support and further the goals of USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Eligible applicants can request up to $2.5 million per application to carry out projects that benefit the public in Alaska and strengthen the state’s environmental resilience.
This announcement commits up to $10,000,000 for the purpose of this opportunity from funds received. This funding is designed to support projects led by municipal and tribal governments, regional housing authorities, and non-profit organizations. All proposals must be rooted in Alaska and directly tied to supporting NRCS conservation programs. The Commission is especially interested in projects that help implement or expand programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, Conservation Stewardship Program, Regional Conservation Partnership Program, and Agricultural Conservation Easement Program.
Applicants are encouraged to propose activities that build organizational capacity to serve as NRCS partners. This may include securing long-term funding for staffing, covering travel and training costs, and supporting events that promote knowledge sharing and program development. Projects may also include direct support for Tribes or producers implementing NRCS initiatives, covering everything from shipping and labor expenses to restoration and operation costs, particularly in remote or hard-to-access areas.
Additionally, funding can be used to assist with indirect costs related to conservation easements and land trust development. This includes costs such as appraisals, surveys, title work, environmental assessments, and legal or administrative support necessary to complete NRCS-related land transactions.
Eligible applicants for this opportunity include Native American tribal governments that are federally recognized, city or township governments, and county governments. Nonprofit organizations with a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, as well as those without such status (excluding institutions of higher education), are also eligible. In addition, public housing authorities or Indian housing authorities, along with Native American tribal organizations other than federally recognized tribal governments, may apply
