Applications are now open for the Small Grant Program (SGP) for Nurturing Marine Plastic Recycling, Upcycling, and Repurposing Businesses, an initiative under the MOF/PEMSEA Marine Plastics ODA Project.
The Small Grant Program is part of the project’s Component 2, which promotes best practices and innovative solutions for reducing marine plastics and improving plastic waste management.
The program supports local businesses, NGOs, and community-based organizations in developing projects that recycle, upcycle, or repurpose plastics — including marine plastics — to promote a circular economy at the local level.
Objectives
- To support local businesses, NGOs, community-based organizations in the development and implementation of projects focused on the recycling/upcycling/repurposing of plastics, including marine plastics.
- To promote circular economy practices within the local business community through technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives related to the recycling and upcycling of plastics.
- To enhance environmental sustainability and economic resilience at the local level by reducing the inflow of plastics into the ocean and creating value-added business opportunities.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount provided by the Small Grant Fund is to an applicant for a project is $10,000(USD).
- The grant amount should cover project-related expenses, such as materials, equipment, design & invention of items, capacity building, and community engagement activities.
Project Implementation
- 1 year from the date of signing the LOA.
Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant must be registered local businesses, NGOs, community-based organizations within the Philippines project sites (Bulan, Calbayog, Daanbantayan, Dipolog, Puerto Princesa, Tandag) of MOF/PEMSEA Marine Plastics ODA Project.
- Applications need to targeted towards recycling, upcycling, repurposing of plastics, including marine plastics. All applications should demonstrate how the project will contribute to the reduction of plastic wastes and promotion of circular economy, aligned with the objectives and priorities of the MOF/PEMSEA Marine Plastics ODA Project.
- Applicants must provide a clear project proposal outlining objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes.
- Any organization that has a questionable track record, as evidenced by poor implementation of previous projects and unsound financial management practices is ineligible.
