The Australia Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is inviting applications for the Australia Awards Scholarship in the Federated States of Micronesia.
Australia Awards scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, recipients develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia.
Australia’s international development assistance to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) helps promote prosperity, reduce poverty, and enhance sustainable development.
Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people with disability, and other marginalized groups.
Priority Field
Priority sectors for study through Australia Awards in FSM are:
- Education
- Health, including pathology
- Environment and climate change
- Natural Resource Management including fisheries and food security
- Cybersecurity
- Psychology, social work, and social protection
- International Law and international relations.
Level of Study
- Australia Awards scholarships provide citizens of FSM with the opportunity to obtain a Master’s Degree or Doctorate Degree qualification at an Australian tertiary institution.
- Awards will be offered for commencement in 2023.
Australia Awards Benefits
- Australia Awards scholarships are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian education institution, including any preparatory training.
- Scholarship recipients will receive the following:
- return air travel
- a one-off establishment allowance on arrival
- full tuition fees
- contribution to living expenses
- introductory academic program
- overseas student health cover for the duration of the scholarship
- supplementary academic support
- fieldwork allowance for research students and masters by coursework which has a compulsory fieldwork component.
Eligibility Criteria
- English language proficiency
- Applicants must have achieved an IELTS (Academic) the score of 6.5 or higher (with no individual band score of less than 6.0) or an equivalent TOEFL or PTE score. Scores must be valid on 1 January 2022.
- Commencement of study
- All scholarships must be taken up in the year for which they are awarded. Should an awardee not be able to commence study in 2023, the scholarship will be withdrawn.
- Country-specific conditions
- In addition to the eligibility requirements, candidates from FSM must also meet the following conditions:
- For Master’s Degree level study:
- Applicants must:
- hold a Bachelor Degree; have achieved above average results; and have at least 3 years of relevant work experience;
- not hold or have held a scholarship to study outside their home country in the 24 months preceding the application;
- have an IELTS or TOEFL score at the pass rate of 6.5 for each band that is current at the time of application; and
- not already hold a Master’s Degree.
- Applicants must:
- For Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) level study:
- Applicants must:
- hold a Master’s Degree; have achieved above average results; and have at least 3 years relevant work experience;
- not hold or have held a scholarship to study outside their home country in the 24 months preceding the application;
- have an IELTS or TOEFL at a pass rate of 6.5 for each a brand that is current at the time of application; and
- not already hold a Ph.D. Degree.
