Applications are now open for the Acumen Malaysia Fellowship to develop a community of leaders who challenge the status quo, work across lines of difference and inspire their communities to believe in a brighter future.
During this year, Fellows remain in their jobs while taking part in a series of immersives and group discussions. After the first year, Fellows become part of Acumen’s global community of social innovators. They get access to unique opportunities for growth and collaborate with fellows from across the globe to build a world based on dignity.
The Fellowship Experience
The programme develops your capacity to tackle long standing problems of poverty and injustice. You should expect an intensive leadership journey grounded in:
- Challenging your existing ideas to build new ways of thinking and problem solving
- Deepening your capacity to innovate and drive change by practicing essential
- leadership skills directly applicable to your work
- Cohort-based learning with diverse role models from sectors and backgrounds
- Facilitation and coaching that challenges and accompanies you in your practice
- Learning from Acumen Academy’s global community of social innovators
What makes a Fellow?
Their fellows are extraordinary leaders who dare to embrace the difficult journey of social change. Here’s what they want from you—and what you can expect from your cohort.
- Entrepreneurs: Leaders of both for-profit and nonprofit organizations providing critical goods or services to the underserved.
- Intrapreneurs: Leaders who are bringing to life new initiatives or approaches within the organization. The focus is on designing, testing, incubating and implementing ideas that enable the organization to pursue its purpose.
- Organizational Builders: Leaders who play an integral role in building the organization. The focus is on building the internal blocks, systems & processes that enable the organization to pursue its purpose.

- Learn to catalyse and embrace the gradual and meaningful process of creating change at the personal, organisational, and societal levels

Eligibility Criteria
Qualified applicants are:
- Full-time working professionals who are leading or are an integral part of building an initiative that aims to eradicate poverty or injustice.
- Based in and committed to long-term social impact in Malaysia, with strong personal impact record locally.
- Ready and willing to participate in an intensive, year-long personal and professional leadership journey.
- Typically following one of the below trajectories:
- Entrepreneurship: Founding or leading a for-profit or nonprofit providing critical goods or services to the undeserved.
- Intrapreneurship: Creating innovative solutions to tackle poverty or injustice from within an existing institution by shifting its culture and building new collaborations.
- An organizational builder within a for-profit, nonprofit, or government organization: Alleviating poverty or injustice with key decision-making power but not as the founder or CEO.
