Applications are now open for its Indigenous Art Scholarships and Mentorships to provide funding to support the development of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists in B.C. with education or mentorship.
The funding supports B.C. artists studying all arts forms including songwriters, carvers, storytellers, visual artists, dancers, regalia creatives, weavers, writers and more.
The funding for post-secondary arts education will support applicants enrolled in an arts program at a post-secondary institution. Applicants must indicate the institution, program, and number of semesters they have enrolled in, as well as a balanced budget and proposal showing how they will use the funds.
Individual artists who wish to further their arts education through a mentorship with an established artist must provide the name of the mentor, a detailed description of the project plan, support letters, a balanced budget and proposal indicating how they will use the awarded funds.
Funding Information
- Awards for post-secondary arts education are available up to $20,000 per calendar year.
- Awards for mentorship-based arts education are available up to $30,000 per calendar year.
Eligibility Criteria
- IAP funding is limited to First Nations, Inuit and Metis who are residing in B.C. FPCC reserves the right to prioritize creative projects that demonstrate arts revitalization for B.C. First Nations.

Applicants to this program must:
- Be 17 years of age or older. If you are under 18 years of age, please include the signature of a legal guardian.
- Have previous experience that demonstrates a commitment to their creative practice.
- Committed to furthering their craft and expanding their skillset.
- Demonstrate the support of recognized Indigenous artists, creatives, cultural, or community leaders
- Remain full-time residents of B.C. for the duration of their program.
- Applicants may attend any institution or engage in a mentorship outside of the province but must be registered as a resident of British Columbia. If there is a question about whether you live in British Columbia, you may be asked to provide documentation. Your proof of residency can include a valid British Columbia services card, a valid British Columbia driver’s license or evidence of income taxes paid in the previous year as a British Columbia resident.
- Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution OR partnered with an established mentor in their chosen creative expression.
- Submit only one application per deadline to the IAP.
- Submit a Final Report for any previous IAP grants (if applicable). You will not be eligible to apply until all active IAP grants are closed.
- Have a start date after the application deadline.
- Not have the same project funded through the BCAC programs.
- Funds must be spent by December 31st, 2023. If enrolled in a semester-based program, only one school years’ worth of education can be applied for.
