The ASEAN- Australia One Health Fellowship Program is pleased to invite nominations (including self-nominations) from eligible candidates in ASEAN Member States.
The ASEAN- Australia One Health Fellowship Program was established in 2021 at Murdoch University with funding from the Australian Government.
The program aims to strengthen regional One Health technical capacity and coordination with an emphasis on supporting ASEAN’s regional public health and health security agenda. It will support 40 One Health fellowships for eligible ASEAN member state officials with expertise in epidemiology, public health, animal health, environmental health, wildlife medicine, health economics, and biosecurity.
Components
The ASEAN- Australia One Health Fellowship is a non-residential Fellowship for 2.5 years with an expected workload of 10 hours per week during the academic semester, plus research activities. This comprises three components:
- Online training: Fellows will
- enroll in the postgraduate Murdoch University Graduate Certificate in One Health which comprises four units (classes) of study as offshore international students, with online delivery of course material and tutorials. Fellows will take one unit per Semester.
- participate in at least three online 2-3 hour Research Training Workshops to develop methods and skills to examine and contextualise One Health considerations and requirements within their own country and across the ASEAN community. Workshops will introduce methods and tools used in One Health with themes including Public Administration Analysis, Legislation Analysis, Political Economy Analysis; Conducting a Synthetic Literature Review, Working and Writing Collectively as a Remote Team, Interpreting Surveillance, and Communication Skills.
- Fellow’s Mentorship Program: linking Fellows with One Health Murdoch University academics to aid development, facilitate research training and engage the Fellow in the global Biosecurity and One Health community.
- Hands-on research projects: Each Fellow will participate in a research project to develop stocktakes of key considerations for the implementation of One Health principles in their own country under the supervision of a mentor. These research activities will include the opportunity to work collectively with other Fellows from the same ASEAN country as well as to share experiences across the ASEAN community.
Eligible Countries
- Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Lao DPR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam.
Eligibility Criteria
- Government officials from ASEAN countries (citizens or permanent residents) working in policy areas relevant to One Health are eligible to apply. Applicants must meet the entry criteria for study at Murdoch University including:
- Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience; and
- Academic IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0 (note that recent study at a University taught in English can be accepted).
- In line with the program’s aims, preference will be given to eligible government officials who can demonstrate strong current or desired interest and engagement in One Health-related policy areas that may contribute to achieving ASEAN’s health security priorities.
- In accordance with the Australian Government and Murdoch’s commitment to inclusivity, nominations from women, persons with disabilities and indigenous groups are encouraged.
- While the fellowship will cover all tuition fees, candidates will require access to a computer and internet facilities at their own cost. Candidates must have computer literacy and access.
