The U.S. Embassy in Yangon is pleased to announce the opportunity to compete for the Fulbright Foreign Student Scholarship Program for the academic year 2023.
What: The program gives full scholarship funding to students from Myanmar seeking a Master’s Degree at a university in the United States of America.
Who: Participants are recruited through a merit-based, open competition and chosen based upon their leadership potential, academic excellence, maturity, ability to adjust successfully to life in the United States, and potential to promote mutual understanding between the United States and the people of other countries.
Eligible Fields of Study: All fields of study will be considered.
Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Fulbright scholarship, applicants:
- must be from Myanmar; individuals of other nationalities are not eligible to apply in Myanmar;
- must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree (applicants with an advanced degree, e.g. Masters, are also eligible);
- must have a strong academic background and a record of excellence in previous studies;
- must have a minimum TOEFL score of 575 (paper-based) or 90 (internet-based) (students must take a screening test conducted by the U.S. Embassy if they don’t have a TOEFL score, and must take the official TOEFL test after being nominated);
- should have relevant degrees or professional experience in their proposed field of study;
- should have little or no previous experience traveling or living in the United States;
- should not have a degree from a U.S. university or be enrolled in a U.S. degree program.
