Apply for Training and Professional Development Grant Program (New Zealand)

CFAs: Training and Technical Assistance Initiative (US)

Deadline: 10-Oct-2025

The Te Pou is seeking applications for its Training and Professional Development Grant Program specifically for workers in the consumer, peer support and lived experience (CPSLE) mental health and addiction workforce, who are currently, or are aspiring to be, reflective practitioners, project leaders, service leaders or people leaders.

The grant will help cover the costs to take part in a learning activity (course or training programme) for existing CPSLE workers to develop professional knowledge and skills that enhance their CPSLE role or career in reflective practice, service, project or people leadership. This should include reference to either or both of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi or the CPSLE competencies. This may be through: increased knowledge, understanding and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles; or increased cultural responsivity/competence; or alignment with the leadership level of the CPSLE competencies; or a combination of these elements.

Applicants can be funded up to a maximum of $2,500 including GST. If a learning activity costs more than this amount, Te Pou may fund a portion of the cost up to $2,500. Multiple applications can be submitted by the same applicant, provided each is for a separate learning activity.

The grant can be used for: course fees, related resources and course materials (e.g. workbooks), a contribution towards travel and accommodation costs. The grant cannot be used for the purchase of a laptop. The CPSLE training and professional development grant does not cover the employer back-filling or wages of the applicant. Supporting equity for Māori and Pasifika people. Learning activities that support increased knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural competence.

Individuals who are currently in, or aspire to be in, reflective practitioner, project, service or people leader roles in the consumer, peer support and lived experience (CPSLE) workforce in mental health and addiction can apply. To be eligible, applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, aged 18 years or older, and have personal lived experience of mental health challenges and/or addiction. They must also hold a current role in the CPSLE workforce and provide a letter of support from their employer, or organisational support for those in unpaid roles.

The grant prioritises equity for Māori and Pasifika people and supports learning activities that strengthen knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural competence. Applicants are required to demonstrate that their organisation supports their attendance at the chosen learning activity through a letter of support.

Applications for the CPSLE Training and Professional Development Grant will open on Monday 15 September and close at midday on Friday 10 October 2025. Applicants must begin their learning activity after 1 November 2025 but before 30 July 2026, and the activity must end before 31 December 2026.
