Call for Expression of Interest: WASH in Informal Settlements 2026 (Lebanon)

Deadline: 14-Oct-2025

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is inviting partners to submit proposals for WASH interventions in Lebanon, with a focus on supporting Syrian refugees and host communities across the regions of Liban-Nord, Baalbek-Hermel, Aakkar, and Beqaa.

After more than fourteen years of the Syrian crisis, WASH needs remain pressing, yet donor funding has decreased significantly as global attention has shifted toward other emergencies such as the conflicts in Ukraine, Sudan, and Gaza, as well as droughts in the Horn of Africa.

In this challenging context, UNICEF seeks to collaborate with NGOs that can deliver life-saving services to the most vulnerable populations while ensuring cost efficiency and innovation. Proposals must demonstrate not only the ability to maintain essential service standards but also the capacity to introduce new approaches that can reduce operational costs and strengthen sustainability in the long term.

The call highlights three core priorities. First, ensuring access to a minimum of 20 litres of safe water per capita per day, accompanied by appropriate desludging services to maintain sanitation standards. Second, implementing effective hygiene promotion and community engagement initiatives that encourage healthier practices and foster resilience, with an emphasis on innovative methods. Third, investing in water supply and sanitation solutions that support more sustainable and cost-effective service delivery, ensuring benefits extend beyond the immediate emergency response.

By engaging local and international partners with strong knowledge of their designated areas, UNICEF aims to deliver targeted, impactful WASH interventions that respond to urgent humanitarian needs while laying the foundation for longer-term improvements in Lebanon’s most vulnerable communities.
