Deadline: 19-Nov-2025
The CaixaResearch Health Research Competition, in partnership with FCT, will support groundbreaking projects in neuroscience, oncology, cardiovascular and associated metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, and enabling technologies related to these fields.
FCT has collaborated with the “la Caixa” Foundation to mobilize financial support for innovative research led by institutions based in Portugal, strengthening the country’s position in global health research.
Projects selected in this competition can be executed over a maximum period of three years, providing flexible yet substantial support to accelerate research outcomes. Individual projects, submitted by a single research organization, can request funding of up to €500,000. Consortium projects, involving between two and five research organizations, may apply for financial support of up to €1,000,000, encouraging collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches.
The competition includes a structured eligibility phase to ensure that proposals meet formal and content requirements before evaluation. The Grant Project Office reviews submissions for format eligibility, confirming that they comply with all established criteria. Content eligibility is also assessed to identify proposals with a lower likelihood of selection, using a combination of algorithmic analysis and expert human review. This dual process ensures that only high-quality and well-prepared proposals move forward, guaranteeing fairness while maintaining rigorous scientific standards.
Through this competition, researchers in Portugal and Spain has an opportunity to secure funding for innovative health projects that could have significant impacts on disease understanding, treatment, and technology development. The structured evaluation process and generous funding framework make this initiative a pivotal platform for advancing health research across multiple critical domains.
