European Commission launches Coal Research Projects 2025

Request for Proposals: Pfizer Research Grant (Taiwan)

Deadline: 24-Sep-2025

The European Commission has launched the Coal Research Projects, aiming to support innovative research aligned with RFCS objectives for coal. Proposals should clearly outline which objectives they address, such as supporting the just transition of the coal sector and regions, improving health and safety, and minimizing the environmental impact of coal mines in transition.

These projects fall under RFCS Coal Research Projects (RPJs), which focus on investigative or experimental work. The goal is to generate knowledge that supports the development of new products, services, or production processes that meet practical needs.

The total call budget is EUR 40 million, with EUR 7 million allocated specifically for Coal Research Projects. Proposals should aim to begin with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 1–3 and achieve TRL 4–5 by the end of the project. Projects may include a few minor activities that exceed TRL 5, but the majority of work must stay within the expected TRL range.

Each proposal must assess the expected industrial, economic, social, and environmental benefits. This ensures that projects not only advance knowledge but also offer tangible impacts.

Eligible applicants must be legal entities engaged in or substantially contributing to research and technological development. These entities must be based in EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories) or countries associated with the RFCS.
